Alexander McQueen Roses Exhibition

Alexander McQueen has recently unveiled its newest Open Access installation in London at the brand’s Mayfair flagship, showcasing a stunning display of flowers that pay homage to the legendary founder. The exhibition, titled Roses, features two breathtaking dresses that capture the beauty and elegance of flowers.

At the center of the Roses exhibition are two show-stopping dresses that stand out: a captivating red rose dress designed by Sarah Burton for the Autumn/Winter 2019 collection, and a poetic dress originally created by Lee Alexander McQueen in 2007 using fresh flowers. This historical piece was a part of the iconic Sarabande show at the Cirque d’Hiver in Paris, where models graced the runway in a mesmerizing fashion moment set to Handel’s Sarabande.

The installation not only showcases these exquisite dresses but also includes elements such as a replica of the original Sarabande show invitation, a Roses poster, and a special video detailing the making of the Red Rose dress. Judy Halil, the head of atelier at Alexander McQueen, demonstrates the meticulous process of crafting the petal-like 3D form of the dress, highlighting the brand’s exceptional expertise and craftsmanship.

Moreover, the exhibition offers practical masterclasses on pattern making and couture techniques for students, guided by Burton and Halil. Visitors can further immerse themselves in the world of Alexander McQueen through an interactive walk-in glass cylinder displaying the original video of the flower dress making its debut at the Paris Cirque d’Hiver show, alongside a variety of floral-inspired designs.

Alexander McQueen has been at the forefront of promoting collaborative education and open access installations since January 2019, inviting students from across the UK to participate in an extensive program dedicated to sharing the brand’s legacy and skills. The first installation, Unlocking Stories, provided insights into the creative process behind the Spring/Summer 2019 collection, showcasing fittings, work in progress samples, field trips, and primary research conducted by Burton.

Celebrating the brand’s heritage and commitment to artistry and innovation, the Roses exhibition at Alexander McQueen’s Mayfair flagship offers a unique opportunity for the public to experience the beauty and creativity of the brand. Open to visitors from November 30th until the end of April, the installation invites guests to delve into the world of Alexander McQueen and be enchanted by the allure of Roses.
