Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW)

Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW), formerly known as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia, is gearing up for an exciting event from May 15 to 19 at Sydney’s Carriageworks. Organized by IMG, this fashion extravaganza will showcase an impressive lineup of designer runway shows and programming.

The official schedule for AAFW is packed with both new and returning designer names in Australian fashion. Attendees can expect to see the creative works of renowned designers such as Michael Lo Sordo, Gary Bigeni, Karla Špetić, Iordanes Spyridon Gogos, Erik Yvon, and Cue. Additionally, the week will feature group showcases including the David Jones Indigenous Fashion Projects runway presented by Afterpay, TAFE NSW’s Fashion Design Studio, and DHL Next Gen, which is AAFW’s emerging designer program.

Natalie Xenita, the vice president-managing director of IMG fashion events and properties, Asia-Pacific, expressed her enthusiasm for this year’s program. She emphasized that the five-day program will provide a platform for Australia’s most exciting designers to showcase their creativity on the Asia-Pacific’s biggest global fashion stage. She also highlighted the unique consumer integrated fashion week model pioneered in Australia, allowing fashion fans to experience the excitement of fashion week both in person and online at AAFW.com.au.

Beyond the runway shows, AAFW will continue its ‘Talks’ series that features informative panels on various topics related to the fashion industry. Attendees can engage in discussions on subjects like gender diversity in fashion, club culture and fashion, fashion criticism, and key directions in Australian fashion.

The grand finale of AAFW will be a collaboration between Afterpay and #WeWearAustralian, an initiative established to support the local fashion sector in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. This collaboration will result in an “immersive” runway featuring over 50 Australian brands, providing a platform for them to shine and thrive.

AAFW: The Experience aims to immerse fashion enthusiasts in the world of Australian fashion. With its new name and exciting program, this event promises an unparalleled opportunity for attendees to discover and engage with the best of Australian fashion.
