Adrian Appiolaza appointed as Creative Director at Moschino

Adrian Appiolaza has taken on the role of Creative Director at Moschino, where he will be responsible for overseeing the brand’s women’s, men’s, and accessories collections. This appointment comes after the sudden and tragic passing of David Renne, who held the position briefly before his untimely death. Appiolaza, an Argentinean fashion industry veteran with extensive experience in Europe, will report to Massimo Ferretti, the Executive Chairman of the Aeffe Group.

Ferretti expresses his confidence in Appiolaza, highlighting his unique combination of experience, creativity, and knowledge of fashion history. He believes that Appiolaza’s arrival will mark the start of an exciting new chapter for Moschino, which was founded by Franco Moschino.

In response, Appiolaza expresses his excitement for his new role, stating his eagerness to bring a theatrical element to the brand in line with Moschino’s signature style. With a strong background in the fashion industry and experience working with renowned designers, Appiolaza is seen as a rising star in the field.

His previous roles include RTW Design Director at Loewe, where he worked under the creative direction of Jonathan Anderson. He has also worked at Chloé, under the leadership of both Phoebe Philo and Clare Waight Keller. Additionally, he has spent time at Marc Jacobs during his successful tenure at Louis Vuitton, as well as at Miu Miu under Miuccia Prada. Appiolaza’s early career involved working with Alexander McQueen and Miguel Adrover, and he received training at the prestigious Central Saint Martins in London.

Appiolaza credits Phoebe Philo with kickstarting his career, as she invited him to join Chloé after being impressed by his graduation collection. With his diverse experiences and exposure to different design philosophies, Appiolaza brings a fresh perspective to Moschino.

At the age of 51, Appiolaza originally hails from Buenos Aires and developed a passion for fashion through his grandmother’s work as a tailor. He later relocated to the UK, drawn in by its vibrant music scene, and has since become a dedicated collector of designer fashion, including vintage Moschino pieces.

Fashion enthusiasts can look forward to seeing the first display of Appiolaza’s creative vision during Fashion Week on February 22nd in Milan. While it may take some time for his full impact to be felt at Moschino, there is no doubt that his appointment will bring about an exciting new era for the brand. With his wealth of experience and unique perspective, Appiolaza is poised to make his mark on the iconic fashion house.
