Adidas by Stella McCartney Launches Groundbreaking Sustainable Sportswear

Adidas by Stella McCartney is taking a significant step towards sustainability in the fashion industry with the launch of a groundbreaking sportswear garment. This new tracksuit, set to release on October 6th, showcases the potential of a circular fashion system, thanks to collaborations with leading innovators in the fashion industry as part of the brand’s Made to Be Remade circularity program.

The key feature of this innovative tracksuit is the use of a QR code and the Adidas app, which allows consumers to easily return worn-out items for remaking. This initiative brings the brand closer to its goal of ending plastic waste and marks their first effort to extend the lifespan of their products. This concept builds on the success of Adidas’ Futurecraft Loop shoe, an early prototype that aims to prolong the life of footwear.

The fashion industry currently recycles less than 1% of global textiles into new textiles, highlighting the need for change. To address this issue, Adidas has assembled a consortium of partners for a three-year project. One of these partners is Frankenhuis, a company specializing in collecting and sorting post-consumer textiles. Their collaboration has led to the use of Infinited Fiber’s pioneering technology, which transforms post-consumer textiles into a new man-made cellulosic fiber called Infinna. This fiber closely resembles virgin cotton and has been used in the production of the tracksuit. The garment is made from a blend of 60% viscose and 40% organic cotton, ensuring both softness and sustainability.

In terms of design, the oversized tracksuit features a contemporary and neutral light grey and black color palette. It serves as a canvas for the next generation of activists to make a statement while navigating the world in style. At the conclusion of the project, Aalto University, a Finnish community focused on science, art, tech, and design, will share the knowledge gained, fostering further innovation in sustainable fashion practices.

Stella McCartney, a key collaborator in this endeavor, expressed her excitement about pushing the boundaries of material innovation in the sportswear industry. She stressed the importance of finding new solutions for circular fashion and the significance of collaboration with like-minded individuals to drive change. McCartney takes pride in producing a garment that promotes sustainability while embodying the signature style of Adidas by Stella McCartney, appealing to the next generation of activists.

The introduction of this groundbreaking eco sportswear garment by Adidas by Stella McCartney demonstrates the brand’s commitment to creating a more sustainable future for fashion. By harnessing the power of circularity and innovative technology, Adidas aims to reshape the way we produce, consume, and reimagine sportswear. Collaborations and initiatives like these pave the way for a more responsible and conscious approach to design and production as sustainability continues to dominate the fashion industry.
