Adidas Originals and renowned designer Craig Green have joined forces to release a fresh iteration of the iconic 1988 Squash performance shoe. The new model, known as the CG Squash Polta AKH, pays homage to Adidas’ rich design history while incorporating Green’s distinct aesthetic. Its standout feature is a transparent mesh upper, which not only showcases the shoe’s internal craftsmanship but also reveals the typically hidden industrial colors. Additionally, the CG Squash Polta AKH incorporates Adidas’ signature ghost layers, a defining characteristic of Green’s collaboration with the brand.
The transparent upper of the shoe is adorned with the recognizable Adidas 3-Stripes, creating varying levels of transparency at the intersections with the internal construction. To add a touch of nostalgia, the inner canvas bears the original 1988 serial number, ‘F.6314b Squash’. The design maintains a visual dialogue with its predecessor through details such as suede trim around the outer sole and a perforated tongue.
Green has put his personal touch on the shoe’s laces, utilizing three delicate laces fused together at the tip to evoke the spirit of the Adidas 3-Stripes. The style also features branding from both Craig Green and Adidas just below the heel collar and on the tongue, as well as the classic Adidas Trefoil badge on the outsole’s side.
