A.P.C. Founder Jean Touitou Seeks Sale of Brand

According to sources, Jean Touitou, the founder of A.P.C. (Atelier de Production et de Création), is seeking to sell his renowned label. The 72-year-old entrepreneur has enlisted Rothschild & Co, an investment bank, to assist him in finding suitable investors. This move suggests that Touitou may be contemplating exiting the brand he established in 1987.

Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, A.P.C. has remained in a strong position. In fact, 2021 proved to be a remarkable year for the brand, as it experienced a 39% growth in its activities. Revenues soared to an impressive 82 million euros, making it the most successful year to date. The company witnessed growth in all sectors, with a 14% boost in sales compared to its fiscal 2019 figures.

A.P.C.’s appeal to investors lies in its collection of casual and timeless wardrobe staples, complemented by artistic collaborations that make a strong lifestyle statement. The brand boasts a well-established network of stores and has been expanding its global reach for several years. Interestingly, its domestic market accounts for less than 20% of its total activities, leaving ample room for further expansion in Europe and Asia.

The brand’s value has been estimated at approximately 160 million euros, taking into consideration recent interest rates and the company’s Ebitda, which exceeds 10 million euros. Potential investors expressing interest in A.P.C. include L Catterton, Eurazeo, Permira, as well as prominent fashion and luxury conglomerates like OTB or Artémis. Despite not necessarily aligning with their usual investment formats, these players recognize the potential of A.P.C.

Jean Touitou’s plans following the sale of the brand remain uncertain. However, in recent months, he has been subtly hinting at his intentions through campaigns and special interactions with artists, possibly indicating that he has been preparing for this outcome for some time.

In conclusion, Jean Touitou’s decision to sell A.P.C. signals his readiness to pass the torch and ensure the brand’s continued success under new ownership. With a strong financial performance and significant growth potential, A.P.C. presents an enticing investment opportunity for prospective buyers.
